The Frostbyte lab is involved in the following projects:

Meistaranám og rannsóknir í netöryggi (Master’s degree program and research in cybersecurity)

A collaboration between University of Iceland (UoI) and Reykjavik University (RU) to launch a joint 2-year Master’s Degree program and research facility in cybersecurity. Courses from universities abroad will be part of the programme. Students will be able to enrol at either University of Iceland or Reykjavik University and take up to 50 ECTS of designated cybersecurity courses offered at either institution, as well as courses offered by partners abroad such as NTNU, financed by this agreement. Student’s M.Sc. theses will be supervised by the university they are enrolled at. This project will utilise partnerships with industry to engage students in developing real-world solutions to the issues that administration, business, and critical infrastructure face today. Courses will be taught in English.

National Coordination Centre for Cybersecurity in Iceland (NCC-IS/Eyvör)

Eyvör NCC-IS is the National Coordination Centre of Iceland set up by Regulation (EU) 2021/887. It will act as a central point for the national and European cybersecurity community, disseminating relevant outcomes of the work of the NCC-Network and the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre (ECCC) at the national level. UoI and RU are members of the NCC consortium. With their expertise in education and research and close collaboration in the area of cyber security, the two universities are natural partners in NCC-IS for developing and disseminating educational programmes and supporting research and innovation, stimulating interest in cybersecurity, and further strengthen cooperation with universities outside of Iceland concerning education and research.

Defend Iceland

Defend Iceland is a bug bounty platform with emphasis on the community. A software platform where the country’s leading ethical hackers simulate the methods of hackers to identify security vulnerabilities software systems. UoI and RU are partners of Defend Iceland

Rannsóknarsetur um netöryggisfræði

A research center in the field of cybersecurity will be established. This involves creating a new doctoral program developed in collaboration between Reykjavík University and the University of Iceland and expanding the cyber laboratory in collaboration with the University of Akureyri. This will fund doctoral positions with a focus on the challenges in cyber defense and the opportunities in cybersecurity inherent in recent advances in artificial intelligence.
